You GOT it... but do you GET it?

"When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, 'Who do people say that the Son of Man is?' 14 'Well,' they replied, 'some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.' 15 Then he asked them, 'But who do you say I am?' 16 Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.' 17 Jesus replied, '... my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.'"  (Mat. 16:13-17, NLT)

Dude, Peter GOT it!  Jesus is the Christ... our Savior!  and Jesus commended him for having a a heart that was open to the Father's voice.  You know Peter had to feel pretty good about that moment!

But then... if you keep on reading, after this Jesus begins to share with his disciples that he came to die... and that he had to go to Jerusalem and be arrested and crucified...

...and this conversation breaks out...

"Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. 'Heaven forbid, Lord,' he said. 'This will never happen to you.' 23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, 'Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.'”  (Mat. 16:22-23, NLT)

What happened?  Peter GOT it... but then he didn't GET it.

I wonder how many people GET Jesus as Savior... but then, just like Peter, within a very short time... begin to live like they don't "GET IT" anymore.

We GET that Jesus is Lord, but then, like Peter we walk according to the ways of this world, instead of God's ways.  We function according to our own wisdom or the wisdom of this world -- instead of God's Word.

Can you point to a time in your life when you GOT IT?  I.e. you understood the message of the Cross, and received Jesus as Savior?

Are you living today like you GET IT?  Or are you like Peter---caught up in worldly thinking... alowing the culture to "conform you" instead of allowing God's Word to renew you (Rom 12:2)?

If you have gottne caught up in worldly thinking---you're not condemned (Rom. 8:1), but you do need to allow the Spirit to convict you of that... and repent today.... turn away from that and freshly commit to allowing God's Word and God's Spirit to guide you life---and NOTHING else.

I know I needed to do this today... this is my prayer, "Father, empty me of me.  Empty me of self-centered thinking and of any thoughts that are rooted in this world--and not of your Kingdom.  And FILL me with your SPIRIT and with a boldness to live unashamedly for you!"
